The High Violets new album To Where You Are, recently released nationwide on Reverb Records, is produced, engineered and mixed by Tony Lash (Dandy Warhols, Elliott Smith, Tahiti 80) and Jeff Saltzman (Sleater Kinney, Stephen Malkamus). This is the band’s follow-up to the highly acclaimed 44 Down and is an absolute masterpiece.
“When shoegazer comes in vogue again look to the High Violets to be the band that signaled its return. The ethereal voice of Kaitlyn Ni Donovan and the dreamy twin guitars are reminiscent of a gentle My Bloody Valentine or early Lush… If To Where You Are had come out in the early nineties, 4AD would have been all over it.” – CMJ
“Kaitlyn ni Donovan has a voice that would melt the Jesus and Mary Chain’s Heart.” – Magnet
“Dreamy, melodious songs fueled by Kaitlyn ni Donovan’s wispy vocals and Clint Sargent’s fluidly gorgeous guitar figures. 44 Down should make you wobbly-legged” – Alternative Press
“The High Violets…shimmering, starry-eyed ethereality” – Rolling Stone
“Floats like The Cocteau Twins, rocks like Ride.” – Magnet
“This band shimmers like some heaven-sent shoegaze band.” – The Big Takeover
“Taking note from the likes of Ride, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, and the Jesus & Mary Chain, the High Violets define their own swirling dream pop.” 4 stars – All Music Guide
“Like most bands of their ilk, (The High Violets) cite My Bloody Valentine as their guiding light, but unlike some others, the High Violets follow that influential band’s lead and make a naturally subdued style downright invigorating.” – Time Out New York
“The High Violets’ sound can be easily linked to many of their predecessors, from the Sundays and Ride to My Bloody Valentine and the Jesus and Mary Chain… 44 Down...is made with passion by a group with obvious musical ability…” – Pop Matters
“Light the incense, turn down the lights, and let’s get freed, man! The High Violets play truly spaced out hippie shoegazer rock, a la Slowdive, The Verve, Curve, and My Bloody Valentine… 44 Down is one long, freaky snoozer of swirly guitars, lightly hit drums, and the angelic voice of lead singer Kaitlyn ni Donovan (she sounds like the lead singer of Lush)... I must recommend 44 Down just because of the lead female singer’s voice; it’s just wonderful.” – Ink19
“44 Down... seven tracks of shimmering sonic sensuality.” – The Oregonian
